Visit to Sudair Solar Power Station

Following the Arab Energy Club (AEC) meeting held in Riyadh on December 10th, 2024, six members participated in a visit to the Sudair Solar Power Station, one of the largest solar power plants in the world, with a capacity of 1.5 GWe. The station is located 2 hours north of Riyadh. The visit was kindly proposed and sponsored by Ms. Sara Alharethy, a member of AEC and Executive Business Development Manager at ACWA Power. Mr. Faisal AlOmari, the CEO of the Sudair project, graciously hosted us, made all necessary arrangements, and guided us superbly throughout the visit.

We greatly benefited from the insightful technical information provided and discussions that followed led by Mr. Faisal AlOmari. He shared valuable information about the company’s projects, the Kingdom’s ambitious renewable energy plans, the challenges they have faced, and their strategies to overcome these challenges. We were particularly impressed by their forward-looking vision and their preparedness to support the Kingdom’s energy transition, aiming to generate 50% of its total electricity from renewable sources in the future.
