AEC Annual Meeting in Saudi Arabia, 2019
The AEC annual meeting took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the 21st of December 2019.
The club’s event featured three sessions focusing on crucial energy and climate-related topics. The first session delved into recent developments in oil and gas markets, emphasizing oil price volatility, investment trends, and policy responses, particularly highlighting the role of OPEC in ensuring market stability amidst significant energy market transformations. The second session addressed sustainable energy and climate actions in the Arab region, highlighting the importance of decoupling economic growth from energy use through the adoption of sustainable energy sources and increased efficiency, while also discussing the role of technology and innovation, including blue hydrogen and carbon capture technologies. Lastly, the third session centred on the G20’s significance, especially with Saudi Arabia’s presidency, examining its role in energy and climate discussions, past actions, and potential recommendations for the current presidency to tackle pressing energy and climate challenges.
